Race Into Action: Planning For Sports Day!
Sports Day is one of the highlights of the school calendar. Staff and students alike look forward to the chance to leave the classroom and spend the day on the field, taking part in fun activities and enjoying a bit of friendly competition.
Getting it Right: Preparing for Sports Day
If it’s your responsibility to prepare for Sports Day, you might be feeling a little bit overwhelmed by it all. After all, whole school events take considerable preparation!
Here are a few helpful tips to prepare successfully for the big day:
- Think about objectives: A great starting place is considering what you want to achieve as a learning objective. Think also about aspects such as encouraging teamwork, developing social skills, and supporting one another.
- Prizes, and not just for the winners! It’s great to reward achievement and to recognise the contributions that the students make (and not just the ones who pass the finishing line first!) These personalised certificates are a great way of rewarding achievement; as are small prizes or gifts, such as pre-filled, goody bags for the winners. Our winner and participant personalised sports day stickers are also an excellent way of acknowledging the achievement of everyone on the day. In particular our new, exclusive Gold, Silver Bronze rosette stickers - a cheaper option than medals, if not better as they can be personalised to the school and event.
- Build up the anticipation: Make sure your students are suitably excited as Sports Day approaches by creating activities for the classroom in the lead-up to the day, mentioning the event in assembly, and putting up a school display such as a dedicated noticeboard or posters around the school. Classroom Capers have some sports borders to frame your display and always have a special 3 for 2 offer on all our posters, including the wipe-clean ones, which can be used again and again, making them an attractive budget option!
- Manage Staff effectively: Make sure that staff know what to do when the big day comes, and use their talents effectively, to take control of certain events and activities and to motivate the students.
Above all else, enjoy the experience. With the right planning, you can create a day that the kids will love, and remember for years to come.
